The on line and digital story telling because they applied most to kindergarten. I have started using the web tools much more than I ever have before. The activities gave me a format to go out and explore where I wouldn't have on my own. The Gen Y information was very interesting to me personally because of my own children. After looking at that information it will shape the way I parent in the future. I thought the activities could be long at times, but many were very interesting and helpful. Some of the information just wasn't geared toward kindergarten students and K curriculum. A technological journey............ :)

This was fun! The Disney based you tube really presented the important info in a fun way...I loved it! The comic was good too and I think these would be great sites to share with students who are doing projects and learning how to site other peoples works but.......teaching kindergarten..not so much. :) We talk about the author and how this book was his idea and how their writing is their own ideas. I teach how authors dedicate their "work" to special people emphasizing that the story belongs to the author. I also use the book "Hey Little Ant" to teach ethics and good decision making. I read the story and then I have students write a written response or we talk about it whole class as to what the boy in the story should do about the little ant.

These examples could be used to share information in a fun way...but also to show examples of what we can make together. I would really like to start doing animoto slide shows after special trips or activities and then put it together at the end of the year as a parent gift! :)

I used Animoto. I chose to use their pictures to create a short (free) 30 second video because it was fast and easy to use. I do have an account and I think it would be a fun tool to use to make short slide shows of fieldtrips to show the kiddos on a Fun Friday! :) Students could follow up with a story about what they liked best about our trip.

We listened to the Polar Express, Everything I needed to know I learned in Kindergarten, and Days of the week. We choose the sie above because it had several great ideas for Kindergarten. This podcast could be created using Digital Story telling by uploading pictues and texts and adding voice. Students could watch this in the classroom to learn the days of the week, but I think they wouldlearn more making one! :)

I couldn't choose just one....but both were disturbing in ways. I think the second one showed how technology distracts students. I find my own kids texting and going to my space when they are supposed to be working. I know there is value in all of this technology but I'm not sure how to channel it in the right ways. While doing each task for this class I find myself getting "lost" in all the sites and realize that hours have passed. However,I did like the refseek site. It had great links to places like teacher tube and 5min which gives quick answers to problems.

Google Earth was cool especially the under water pictures. The Littrips were also interesting and idea we would like to share with our team. The sketch part was frustrating. I built a cross and placed it in Kyrgyzstan were my nephew is currently serving on the front lines with the United States Army, but I wasn't able to get a copy to put in my blog.

We looked at all the free sites and agreed that this is not something we would use as a kindergarten teacher. Much of this seems to be for higher grades...but we did create a dabbleboard and looked around. The chat part online was not working for us so we looked through the library and copied and commented on others work.

We did create a delicious account and played with that for awhile. :) Very cool. We also looked through the sites for thing 14 and the sites I liked best were Thinkfinity because it was user friendly. It had sources for kindergarten too. Curriki wasn't geared toward K at all that we found and neither was FREE the gov site. It was interesting...but more for the bigger kids. :) I really liked Discovery ed too. It had puzzle maker and other fun things along with professional developement opportunities.

I learned a lot from this "thing" and will set up a Delicious account. I like that my favorites aren't limited to one computer and that will be organized by "tags." I can also see the benefit of the social aspect of sharing and collaborating with other professionals to access the best strategies and information available.

I have 2 children that are considered Gen Y and many of the statements made I see in my own children. I agree with the statement everybody has to win...can't take no for an answer and have fought those positions with my own kids. In the article Making mLearning work it states that the goal is to make new and more effective strategies. I think that is possible but I also see how that immediate gratification on the computer rather than going to the library or the source is spilling over to other areas of their lives. I also thought the interview with Jason Dorsey was interesting. The idea that friends and lifestyle are most important is scary. Where will commitment and drive in the workplace come in to play? I also think there is so much marketing done on the internet that the distractions on the have the potential to outweigh the benefits.

It was interesting to see the opportinities but I especially liked storyline online with actors reading. It is important for kindergarten children to hear people reading and the actors use their voice "to sound like good reading" which models that for our kiddos. Another was story nory because it had so many language options for EL kids.

This is a great concept but I wouldn't spend the time to use it. I think it would work well for high school students working on group projects so they don't actually have to meet with their busy schedules. The best part about it was learning the meaning of the word. Hawaiian for fast. cute :)

This was a cool "thing" I had no idea these tools were available. Some of my favorites were del.icio.us-which shares the best info others have found stumbleupon-which shows additional web sites that have similar info to what you are interested in craigslist-items for sale urbanspoon-restaurants in the area with menus and reviews along with maps...great for travel comiqs-build comics with your own pis....what a fun way to make cards etc

We looked at several sites and we didn't find much for kindergarten. We thought Google Earth would be fun and hold the attention of our 4 and 5 year olds while teaching about our homes and community. Students can try to find their own home, school and shopping places that are familiar to them.

This was a very interesting task and I learned a lot. The RSS feeds save time and frustration by not having to go to all of your frequently visited sites....now they come to you. I created the iGoogle and didn't realize that is how I receive all my updates. While working on "Thing 8" I realized that Googlelittrips has a RSS feed to subscribe to. I will be looking for them now on sites that I am interested in to save time in the future.

This was fun. Image generators could be used to make posters, book reviews, comic strips and other fun writing activities.......but Melissa got her picture to come up and mine didn't. Any ideas why? :)

I was able to get on Flickr from school without any problem. I was amazed at the beautiful images and creativity of some people. One photo I especially enoyed was this one.

If you scroll down from this image there is a link to one of his award winning photos which will be in the Smithsonian. That photo is amazing too and was shot at Big Sur. :)

Melissa and I are working together and we were amazed at how many different search engines are available. We didn't realize how many search engines sponsor or promote different organizations. We found a site that has very useful information for high school students which I will pass on to my two boys. Finally, I was a little overwhelmed by the amount of resources available.

Thing 3, iGoogle Suite

Google has iGoogle which puts so many exterior tools (outside of CUSD restraints) at your finger tips. I can see how documents and blogging could work an the secondary level where students are doing group and individual projects. These are great tools to follow progress and share information. The paradigm flip shows where we are and where this author believes we need to go. Many of the possibilities seem great like downloading books rather than carrying them around. I also like the idea of more responsible access to networks and information. A concern I have is that it limits personal interaction. I think there still needs to be a balance between the traditional school environment and the web classroom. :)

Blogging is new for me and coming up with a name was an obstacle so this should be interesting. Creating the blog itself was easy but customizing it will be a challenge. Looking forward to learning more.
